A men's Ghana smock in maroon strip woven cotton with yellow and gold stripes. The body is made from narrow woven strips sewn together and flares into pleats below the chest, so it hangs loose and moves as you walk. A red and white embroidered neckline sits at the front, small white stitched stars are scattered across it, and the sleeves are short and wide. Wear it with dark trousers or jeans and sandals, as in the photo, or dress it up for a wedding, a naming ceremony or Independence Day. If you prefer navy, the same seller's navy and yellow smock is cut the same way. It is one size, and the seller gives its measurements as 127 x 81 cm. Made of 100% cotton.

Arts
An original acrylic painting on canvas of five men dancing, in greens and yellows. The artist took it from the festivals of Northern Ghana, where men in their colourful traditional smocks dance with real energy and joy. Here the dancers are dark, loosely brushed figures with arms reaching out to one another and knees lifted mid step, under a rain of small yellow, green and white brush marks that keeps the whole surface moving. The colour runs from a warm yellow glow on the left to deep green on the right. It is signed LEXIS in the lower right corner and measures 20 x 13 inches (about 51 x 33cm), landscape, as given by the artist. There is one, and it is the canvas you see here. It ships rolled in a tube, unstretched and unframed, so allow for stretching or framing when it arrives. A bright piece for a living room, hallway or office wall.

A set of three hand carved wooden wall masks, made in Ghana. Each mask is a long oval face with a multicoloured stained finish, and its patterns are carved back to the pale wood beneath. The left mask carries a lion across the brow and a lattice over the cheeks. The middle one is red, with spirals on the brow and a carved sunburst on each cheek. The right mask has a bird across the brow and fanned lines beneath the eyes. Hung together they make a ready made group for a hallway, living room or office wall, and each one also works on its own. Each mask is about 30cm high and 10cm wide, as the tape measure in the photographs shows, and weighs about 0.25kg. You receive all three masks pictured. Wipe with a dry, soft cloth. Keep them out of direct sunlight and away from damp.

An original acrylic painting on canvas of five figures, signed Lexis. Five tall, faceless figures stand shoulder to shoulder, each balancing a bowl on the head, painted in turquoise, gold, crimson and deep indigo. They are built from loose vertical strokes that run down into the background, so the group reads as one moving line rather than five separate people, and the close detail photograph shows the paint laid on thickly in places with the brush marks left in. At 10 by 14 inches it is a small painting, sized for a narrow wall, a shelf or a group of smaller works. If you like the palette, the artist's other small figure paintings in the shop are painted in the same colours and hang well together. Painted by hand in Accra, Ghana. Keep it out of direct sunlight and away from damp.

A handmade Ghanaian bracelet of chunky glass disc beads in one solid colour, strung on a white cord and made to suit men and women alike. The photograph shows the yellow bracelet. It also comes in green and in red, which you choose from the colour options; those two are not pictured, so ask the seller if you would like to see them first. The beads are made in the Krobo style of Ghana's Eastern Region, thick flat discs with a soft matte finish, stacked side by side all the way round so the bracelet reads as one solid ring of colour. It is a simple piece to wear every day on its own, or to stack with other beads for a cultural occasion, and it makes an easy gift for anyone who loves West African beadwork. Size: about 20.3cm (8 inches) around, with beads about 2.5cm across. Construction: glass beads threaded onto a white textile cord and tied with a knot. Care: keep it dry, wipe it with a soft cloth, and store it flat so the cord keeps its shape.

A small handmade Ghanaian djembe drum, 24cm tall with a 15cm drumhead. The carved wooden body carries a hand carved lion motif around the base, the bowl is wrapped in Kente patterned cloth, and the natural animal skin head is tensioned with traditional cord lacing, with a braided cord loop for hanging. It is made for light drumming, cultural displays, gifts and African inspired decor rather than performance volume. Handmade in Nsawam, Ghana by Ancient Culture, so every drum is cut, carved and skinned by hand and no two are identical. An original painting on canvas of a young woman carrying a bowl on her head, worked in warm browns and amber with loose drips and splashes, signed Lexis in the lower right. The figure is drawn in a few dark strokes over washes of amber that run down the canvas, and the paint is flicked and splashed around her so she seems to be walking through it. The artist lists the medium as a local watercolour pigment he calls aciduro, which is what gives the piece its single warm colour, closer to an ink drawing than to the bright acrylics elsewhere in his shop. At 7 by 10 inches it is a small piece, a good size for a desk, a bookshelf or a gallery wall of small pieces. If you want colour rather than a single tone, Silent Elegance is the better choice. Painted by hand in Accra, Ghana. Keep it out of direct sunlight and away from damp.

A giclee art print of African Woman with Pot, a sepia painting by Lexis. The original shows a woman walking with her eyes closed and a faint smile, one arm raised to steady the pot on her head, in a striped head wrap, large hoop earrings, a beaded necklace, bangles and a beaded waist. It was painted in aciduro watercolour on canvas, the pigment left to bleed, drip and spatter with fine lines drawn over it, and is signed and dated LEXIS 2009. The print reproduces the painting in the size you choose above, A3 at 29.7 x 42 cm or A2 at 42 x 59.4 cm, both standard sizes that take an off the shelf frame. It is the affordable way to hang this piece: the original 22 by 30 inch canvas is also for sale in this shop as African Woman with Pot, Sepia Painting, and the Happy Mothers print is made the same way if you want a pair in brighter colour. Ships rolled in a tube, unframed. Keep it out of direct sun and frame it behind glass to protect the surface.

Three small coconut shell pouches on cords, worn as necklaces, from Ghana. Each pouch is a hollowed coconut shell painted in bands of red, yellow, green and black, with a zip set between the shell and its lid and a black cord to hang it round your neck. It is a pendant and a pocket at once: big enough for coins, a key, earplugs or a lip balm at a festival or on the beach, and small enough to forget you are wearing it. The three in the photographs are lettered UNITE, ROOT and AFRICA. They are made by Ancient Culture, a Ghanaian artisan partner of Unite Root Africa in Nsawam. The set is assorted, so the lettering and the order of the colour bands on yours may differ from the photographs.

A set of six small carved wooden bowls with fitted lids, handmade in Ghana. Each bowl stands about 7cm high and 13cm across, and each is finished in its own colourway with hand carved decoration, from an elephant to Kente inspired patterns, so the set brings a shelf to life as much as it organises one. Use them for shea butter, spices and dawadawa, nuts and dried foods, fruits and small snacks, or jewellery and other small personal items. They are carved by Ancient Culture in Nsawam, Ghana, and the natural wood grain shows through the painted finishes, giving every bowl its own character. Because each piece is individually handmade, slight variations in wood grain, colour, shape and finish may occur, and the set you receive may differ a little from the one photographed.

An original acrylic painting of a village hut by the water at sunset. A hut with a rust and gold roof sits among palms on the left, two small figures in red and yellow walk towards the shore, and a yellow sun breaks through a blue evening sky over still water. The paint is laid on thickly, so the grass and leaves catch the light, while the sky is blended soft. It is signed LEXIS at the lower right. At 20 x 13 inches, about 51 x 33cm, it is a small landscape for a bedroom, a study or a quiet corner of a living room. Painted in acrylic on canvas. It ships rolled in a tube, unstretched and unframed. Keep it out of direct sun and dust it gently with a soft dry cloth.

Arts
An original acrylic painting of a crowd of figures in crimson, ochre and white. Tall, close standing figures fill the left of the canvas in deep reds and burgundy, their round heads caught by touches of white and gold, and the crowd fades into a pale, warm light on the right. The artist paints it as a celebration of the bonds that unite people through shared experience, tradition and purpose, with the light standing for optimism and the promise of a brighter future. It is a landscape canvas of 20 x 13 inches, about 51 x 33cm, painted in acrylic and signed LEXIS at the lower right. Of the artist's crowd scenes, this is the one held almost entirely in warm reds, so it brings heat to a pale wall. If you would rather have a gathering of figures in cooler blues at a smaller size, look at the artist's Figures of Unity. The canvas ships rolled in a tube, unstretched and unframed, so allow for stretching or framing. Keep it out of direct sun and dust it gently with a soft dry brush.

An original acrylic painting of wild flowers in a blue vase, 10 by 14 inches. Painted in thick, textured strokes, the bouquet bursts from a round deep blue vase in reds, yellows, whites and soft pinks against a blue and grey ground, with a single fallen bloom resting at the vase's foot. Signed Lexis, it is a one of a kind piece, not a print. Among the shop's dancers, markets and mothers this is the piece that rests the eye, a quiet subject painted with the same energy. It ships rolled in a tube, unframed, ready for a standard 10 x 14 inch frame. If you prefer a figure to hang beside it, see Beautiful Red Flower Painting by the same artist.

An original acrylic painting of a rainy city street at dusk, glowing with autumn leaves. A tree heavy with gold and orange leaves leans over a wet pathway lined with street lamps, their light pooling in yellow reflections across the ground. Rain falls in thin white streaks through deep blue air, and far down the street two small figures walk under umbrellas, one of them pink. The cool blues and warm ambers balance solitude with comfort, and the loose, layered strokes make the scene feel damp and moving. Painted and signed LEXIS in Ghana. Acrylic on canvas, 13 x 20 inches (about 33 x 51 cm).

Arts
An original acrylic painting of four drummers in blue. Four figures in flowing blue and turquoise robes and tall peaked headdresses move across the canvas, each carrying a round drum, against a background of turquoise sky and ochre light. Lexis paints them in loose, fast strokes that leave the figures half dissolved into the colour, so the picture reads as rhythm and movement rather than portrait. The artist's own title for it is Drummers and Dancers. It is a medium sized landscape canvas, 20 x 13 inches (about 51 x 33cm), signed LEXIS in the lower right corner. If you want something warmer for the same wall, the Echoes of Community paintings by the same artist are the same size in brown and red. Acrylic on canvas. It ships rolled in a tube, unstretched and unframed, so it can be stretched or framed to your taste. Keep it out of direct sunlight and dust it gently with a soft dry brush.

An original painting of an African woman carrying a pot on her head, in sepia browns. She walks with her eyes closed and a faint smile, one arm raised to steady the pot, wearing a striped head wrap, large hoop earrings, a beaded necklace, bangles and a beaded waist. The artist works in aciduro watercolour on canvas, letting the pigment bleed, drip and spatter, then drawing fine lines over it, so the piece sits between figurative and semi abstract. It measures 22 x 30 inches, about 56 x 76cm, and is signed and dated LEXIS 2009 at the lower right. If you like the medium but want something smaller, the artist's Village Girl, Morning Duties is painted the same way at 7 x 10 inches. The canvas ships rolled in a tube, unstretched and unframed, so allow for stretching or framing. Keep it out of direct sun, which fades watercolour, and dust it gently with a soft dry brush.

A large hand carved wooden wall mask in warm red brown, 46 by 28 cm. The face is a single broad oval with a high carved brow, narrow pierced eyes and an open diamond mouth, finished in warm red brown with darker tones across the cheeks and crown. Carved from wood in Ghana, it hangs flat against the wall and reads clearly from across a room, which makes it a natural anchor for a hallway or a living room wall. It is the broadest mask in this shop's range: if you want a slimmer upright profile to hang beside it, see the shop's Intuition and Observer wall masks.

Six handmade beaded bracelets from Ghana, each in its own pattern. Each bracelet is a firm, round tube of small beads stitched closely together. There is no clasp, so each one slips over the hand. The patterns run from simple orange and yellow stripes to blocks of red, white, green and yellow, bright chevrons, and turquoise grounds dotted with tiny bead flowers. Wear one on its own, stack all six on one wrist, or split the set between friends as gifts. They are made by Ancient Culture, a Ghanaian artisan partner of Unite Root Africa in Nsawam. The set is assorted. The maker works with the beads on hand, so the six you receive will be in the same style as the photographs but not necessarily the same six patterns.

An original acrylic market scene on canvas by Ghanaian artist Alex Mensah. In the final minutes before the market closes, buyers and sellers rush to finish their trading and head home for the day. Vibrant shades of acrylic and an impressionistic hand capture the hustle and bustle of the marketplace: women balancing basins of goods on their heads, traders settled by their wares and woven baskets waiting to be carried home, all set against a cool blue evening light. The painting measures 13 x 20 inches, about 33 x 51cm, and is signed Lexis at the lower right. It ships rolled in a tube, unstretched, ready for you to stretch or frame. An original acrylic painting of a woman pausing on her way to look at a red flower. She stands with a load balanced on her head, one hand raised to steady it, in a pale top and an orange and red wrap skirt, while a single red flower opens in the green bush beside her. The background is laid in with the knife in layers of green, brown, orange and yellow, so the surface is textured and catches the light. The Ghanaian artist Alex Mensah, who paints as Lexis, means it as a reminder to slow down in a busy life and notice the small things that matter. It measures 13 x 20 inches, about 33 x 51cm, and is signed LEXIS at the lower right. There is one only. It ships rolled in a tube, unstretched and unframed.

Arts
An original acrylic painting of a crowd of women in brown, ochre and blue. The artist paints them working together, some carrying pots and others head pans, in an impressionistic style of loose, textured strokes. Deep browns at the left give way to yellows and whites on the right, which the artist likens to early dawn and the start of a new day. The artist gives the size as 20 x 13 inches, about 51 x 33cm, and it is signed LEXIS at the lower right. It is the first of a pair: Echoes of Community II is the same gathering in warm reds, while this one is cooler, with flashes of sky blue through the browns, so it suits a room with blue or grey in it. The canvas ships rolled in a tube, unstretched and unframed, so allow for stretching or framing. Keep it out of direct sun and dust it gently with a soft dry brush.

An original acrylic painting of a mother carrying her child on her back. Lexis paints the mother from behind as she walks into a soft landscape of peach, yellow and pale green, her dress and the wrapper holding her child broken into strokes of red, pink and white, with a second figure walking beside her. Bright green is flicked across both sides of the canvas like foliage. In the artist's words, the painting turns an everyday act of caring for a child into a symbol of love, protection and resilience, about carrying hopes and the promise of a new generation as much as a child, and the second figure adds a sense of companionship and community. It measures 10 x 14 inches, about 25 x 36cm, and is signed LEXIS at the lower right. There is one only. It ships rolled in a tube, unstretched and unframed.

Arts
An original acrylic painting on canvas, 18 by 26 inches, of a musician playing the goje, the one string fiddle of northern Ghana, in magenta, green and gold. The player sits behind his instrument with his eyes closed and his mouth open in song, the gourd bowl of the fiddle swinging round in the foreground and the bow laid across it. The artist writes the instrument's name as goji. Everything is broken into loose vertical strokes of colour, so the man, the fiddle and the room seem to dissolve into the sound, and a row of pink flower forms along the bottom edge carries the freshness of the title. At 18 by 26 inches it is a good size for a living room or a study wall where one painting has to carry the room. If you want music in quieter colour, the artist's flute player painting, The Masterpiece, is the calmer piece; this one is for a wall that can take full saturation. Painted by hand in acrylic on canvas and signed Lexis in the lower right. The artist says it is shipped rolled in a tube. Keep it out of direct sunlight and dust with a soft dry brush.

Arts
A round hand carved sese wood wall mask, about 15cm across, beaded in black and white stripes with open slit eyes, a carved mouth and a rim of natural cowrie shells. It is the only one of the maker's masks worked in black and white alone, so it suits a monochrome room or a gallery wall where colour would compete. The stripes curve around the eyes and the brow like a zebra's markings, and the cowries around the rim soften the edge. The maker carves the face in Accra and stitches the glass seed beads on one at a time, which takes a day or two per mask. The back is carved hollow and fitted with a hanging plate and cord, shown in the second photograph. Cowrie shells were used as money across much of West Africa, and they still carry that sense of wealth and good fortune. If you want colour, the maker's Gye Nyame mask pairs red and green beadwork with the same cowrie rim.

An original acrylic painting on canvas of a woman seen from behind, in turquoise, gold, violet and deep earth tones, signed Lexis in the lower right. She stands turned away from the viewer, so there is no face to read, only the line of her back, a gold hoop earring, gold bands on her arm and a string of white beads at her waist. The background is laid in loose vertical strokes of colour that she seems to step out of, and the close detail photograph shows how thickly the paint sits in places, with the canvas weave showing through where it is thin. At 10 by 14 inches it is a small painting, sized for a narrow wall, a shelf or a group of smaller works rather than a single large space. If you want the same palette with more going on, the artist's larger figure paintings sit alongside it in the shop. Painted by hand in Accra, Ghana. Keep it out of direct sunlight and away from damp.

An original Adinkra painting on canvas, 60 x 80cm, framed. Nsɛnkyerɛnne, meaning signs or symbols, is a contemporary exploration of culture, identity and heritage, rooted in the artist's personal connection to Ghanaian cultural traditions. At its centre sits Gye Nyame, the best known Adinkra symbol, an expression of the supremacy of God. The concentric circles are Adinkrahene, chief of the Adinkra symbols, standing for greatness and leadership, and a backward looking bird recalls Sankofa, the call to return for what has been left behind. Through layered colour, expressive marks, charcoal and symbolic forms, the artist reimagines these traditional signs within a contemporary visual landscape, inviting you to look beyond their beauty, engage with their meanings and form a personal connection with the ideas they carry. Painted in 2026 in gouache, acrylic and charcoal, and sold framed as photographed. A conversation with the artist's roots, and a striking anchor piece for a living room, office or gallery wall.

Around them the ground is scattered with painted petals in greens, ochre and blue, so the quiet moment sits inside a shower of colour. The shop holds other mother pieces by the same hand: in Glowing Love mother and baby look at each other, and in Mother and Son the child rides on her back. An original acrylic painting of a smiling woman in yellow waist beads. She stands with her head tilted and her eyes half closed, wearing a gold hoop earring, a necklace of dark beads and a string of large pale yellow waist beads slung over a dark wrap, with a pot tucked against her hip under one arm. The artist paints her semi abstract, in loose impressionistic strokes, against tall bands of turquoise, coral, lilac and yellow, and calls the piece Warm Welcome for the open, inviting smile at its centre. It is signed LEXIS at the lower right and measures 22 x 30 inches (about 56 x 76cm), portrait, as given by the artist. There is one, and it is the canvas you see here, sized for a living room, office or bedroom wall. Arts
An original acrylic painting of two canoes on a shoreline at sunset, signed by Lexis. A radiant celebration of life by the water, it captures a fleeting moment where nature and human presence dissolve into colour and light. Two figures stand beside a canoe, suspended in a dreamlike shoreline atmosphere, while distant silhouettes hint at quiet conversations under a glowing sky. The composition is layered with expressive, confetti like brushstrokes, suggesting movement, memory, and the rhythm of coastal life. Warm hues of gold, coral, and crimson blend into cooler tones, evoking both the serenity and vibrancy of a setting sun. Rooted in contemporary African expression, the piece explores themes of journey, connection, and reflection. The canoe becomes a symbol of transition, between day and night, stillness and motion, past and possibility. The paint is laid on in small thick dabs of colour, so the surface carries real texture and the canvas weave shows through beneath, as the close up in photo 2 shows. At 26 by 18 inches it is one of the larger pieces in the Lexis paintings shop, sized for a living room or office wall.

An original acrylic painting on canvas of five figures carrying loads home. They walk in a loose line from a warm yellow glow on the left into deep blue on the right, each balancing a load on their head, the smallest of them at the far left. The whole surface is laid over with short flecks of blue, yellow, red and white, so the figures seem to move through falling light. The artist divides the canvas into light and dark as a nod to the passing of the day, and calls the piece Family Affair for the bond between people coming home together. It is signed LEXIS at the lower right and measures 20 x 13 inches (about 51 x 33cm), landscape, as given by the artist. There is one, and it is the canvas you see here, sized for a living room, hallway or bedroom wall. She stands tall in a red wrapper, head bowed and eyes lowered, a large round gold earring, a pendant on a fine chain and a stack of bangles on her wrist, while the baby sleeps against her back, tied in a pale cloth. Behind them the canvas breaks into tall bands of crimson, golden yellow and violet, scattered with small yellow dots and fine white lines. The artist painted it as a celebration of a mother's joy and pride on finally holding a child after years of waiting, and as a message of hope for anyone still waiting for theirs. It is signed LEXIS in the lower right and measures 18 x 26 inches (about 46 x 66cm), portrait, as given by the artist. There is one, and it is the canvas you see here, so it makes a fitting gift for a mother or for Mother's Day. If you would rather have the artist's mother and child in green, Mother and Child, Green Kaba is the softer piece; this one is the warmest of his mothers, all reds and gold. Painted by hand in acrylic on canvas. It ships rolled in a tube, unstretched and unframed, so allow for stretching or framing when it arrives. Keep it out of direct sunlight and dust with a soft dry brush.

Arts
An original painting on canvas of a smock dancer from northern Ghana. The dancer is drawn in a few dark lines over washes and spatters of warm brown, the smock flaring out behind as the dancer turns, a wide brimmed hat on top and a round shaker raised in one hand. The artist lists the medium as aciduro, a local watercolour pigment, which gives the piece its single warm tone, closer to an ink drawing than to the bright acrylics elsewhere in the shop. The artist paints it as a victory dance: joy, confidence and the certainty of coming through hard times. At 7 by 10 inches it suits a desk, a shelf or a gallery wall of small pieces. It is one of a kind, not a print, signed Lexis in the lower right corner. Painted by hand in Ghana. Keep it out of direct sunlight and away from damp.

Arts
An original painting on canvas of a drummer with a drum slung at his side, worked in one warm brown pigment, 7 by 10 inches and signed Lexis. The figure is drawn in a few dark lines over washes of ochre, sienna and amber, with loose brushwork and spatters around him, so he seems to stand in the middle of the sound. The artist lists the medium as a local watercolour pigment named aciduro, which gives the piece its single warm tone, closer to an ink drawing than to the bright acrylics elsewhere in the shop. For the artist the drum is a heartbeat: heritage, unity and the call that brings a village together. At 7 by 10 inches it suits a desk, a shelf or a gallery wall of small pieces. It is one of a kind, not a print. Painted by hand in Ghana. Keep it out of direct sunlight and away from damp.

Arts
An original acrylic painting on canvas, 10 by 14 inches, signed Lexis. Rows of pale circles, each ringed in yellow and lit with a white highlight, cover the whole canvas, and behind them a figure the artist describes as a drummer, with dancers around him, comes through in red, plum, orange and green. The artist calls the circles bubbles of joy, rising through the picture like laughter and the good feeling that spreads when music brings people together. Choose it if you like a picture that reveals itself slowly: the figure resolves as you stand back. It is one of a kind, not a print, and ships unframed. Painted by hand in Ghana. Keep it out of direct sunlight and away from damp.

Arts
An original acrylic painting of a woman carrying a basket on her head, 10 by 14 inches. She stands with one hand resting on her waist, painted in plum, gold and red, and the whole canvas is overlaid with rows of pale lilac circles, so the figure seems to appear through them. The artist calls the circles bubbles of hope, each one joined to the next the way every effort and sacrifice opens the way to something better, and the basket of vegetables stands for nourishment, hard work and the promise of tomorrow. Signed Lexis, it is a one of a kind piece, not a print. Among the shop's market and mother paintings this is the most abstract, the one to choose if you like a subject that reveals itself slowly. It ships rolled in a tube, unframed, with a raw canvas margin around the painted area, ready to frame or stretch. If you prefer the same size in a quieter subject, see Wild Flowers, Flower Vase Painting by the same artist.

Arts
An original acrylic painting on canvas of women gathered on a busy market day. On a cool grey ground a crowd of market women stand close together, several balancing pots and trays on their heads. In front of them two traders sit on low wooden benches under wide brimmed hats, with a round pot on the ground to the left and a woven basket of goods to the right. The artist lays the figures down in quick, loose strokes of red, turquoise, yellow and green, and lets streaks of light fall through the grey above them, so the whole circle seems to hum with talk and trade. It is signed LEXIS at the lower right and measures 20 x 13 inches (about 51 x 33cm), landscape, as given by the artist. There is one, and it is the canvas you see here, sized for a living room, dining room or office wall. It ships rolled in a tube, unstretched and unframed, so allow for stretching or framing when it arrives. If you like a market scene in cooler blue light, the artist's The Last Minute, Market Scene Painting is also in the shop.

Arts
An original sepia painting of a mother with her child carried on her back. She is drawn in a few quick dark lines over tall washes of ochre, amber and rust, her head wrapped, the child's round head resting against her, and a crescent and bar pattern running down her wrapper. The artist lists the medium as aciduro, a local watercolour pigment, which gives the piece its single warm tone, closer to an ink drawing than to the bright acrylics elsewhere in the shop. The artist calls it Quiet Strength. Her calm posture is the point: a woman carrying life's responsibilities with grace, strength that is gentle rather than loud. The child against her back stands for trust, continuity and the love and heritage passed from one generation to the next. At 7 by 10 inches it suits a desk, a shelf or a gallery wall of small pieces. It is one of a kind, not a print, signed Lexis in the lower right corner. Painted by hand in Ghana. Keep it out of direct sunlight and away from damp.

Arts
An original sepia painting of a mother carrying her baby son on her back. The mother is drawn in profile in warm browns over washes and spatters of ochre and amber, her son wrapped to her back in a patterned cloth, his head resting against her shoulder. The artist lists the medium as aciduro, a local watercolour pigment, which gives the piece its single warm tone, closer to an ink drawing than to the bright acrylics elsewhere in the shop. For the artist the child is a symbol of hope, continuity and the future, and the mother is the protector carrying the next generation forward through the work of every day. The title says it plainly: a child is not simply someone a mother carries, but a blessing she protects and guides. At 7 by 10 inches it suits a desk, a shelf or a gallery wall of small pieces. It is one of a kind, not a print, signed Lexis in the lower right corner. Painted by hand in Ghana. Keep it out of direct sunlight and away from damp.
