She stands tall in a red wrapper, head bowed and eyes lowered, a large round gold earring, a pendant on a fine chain and a stack of bangles on her wrist, while the baby sleeps against her back, tied in a pale cloth. Behind them the canvas breaks into tall bands of crimson, golden yellow and violet, scattered with small yellow dots and fine white lines. The artist painted it as a celebration of a mother's joy and pride on finally holding a child after years of waiting, and as a message of hope for anyone still waiting for theirs. It is signed LEXIS in the lower right and measures 18 x 26 inches (about 46 x 66cm), portrait, as given by the artist.
