Two faces in cool blue grey sit either side of a golden afro comb whose handle is a raised fist, against a pale blue ground run through with drips. Dark hair rises like a crown above each head, and the comb's long teeth reach down between them. In the artist's words, the painting turns the comb into "a powerful symbol of inner strength", linking it to the Black Power movement, where the comb stood for pride and defiance, and to "the personal battles we fight to maintain who we are".
