An original acrylic painting on canvas, 13 by 20 inches, showing three market women seen from behind, one with a tray of produce balanced on her head. Not one face is shown. The artist paints the women from the back, in deep browns against a haze of violet, grey and yellow, so what you read is the walk and the load rather than a portrait. The figures further off dissolve into a few marks of red and green, which is how a busy market actually looks when you are standing in it. The clothes carry all the colour: a yellow top, a rose wrapper, a red blouse, a green skirt and a band of turquoise, laid on thickly so the ridges catch the light. It is painted in acrylic on canvas and signed Lexis in the lower right. The artist sends it rolled in a tube, so it arrives unframed and ready for the frame or stretcher you choose. Hang it out of direct sunlight and dust it with a dry soft brush. At 13 by 20 inches it suits a narrow wall, a hallway, or a space beside a bookcase where a larger canvas would crowd.
