This is a single original painting and only one exists. The photograph shows the canvas cropped to its edges, so the sides and back are not shown; ask the artist before buying if you need to know how it is stretched or hung. Colours may look slightly different on screen. Ships unframed.
Rousing Grace is a portrait study rather than a scene from a particular tradition. Its subject is the figure itself: a woman caught in the moment of lifting her arms and her face, painted by a South African artist.

An original oil painting on canvas of a woman with her arms raised above her head. Painted almost entirely in shades of rose, crimson and white, it shows a woman with dark curly hair, her head tilted back and her eyes closed, her hands meeting above her head. The hands and face are worked in close detail, with every crease of the palms picked out, while the rest of the canvas is left loose: broad white brushstrokes above, and long drips of thinned paint running down through the lower half. The canvas is square, 100 x 100 cm, a statement size for a living room, a stairwell or an office wall. This is a single original painted by Gary Frier in South Africa, and only one exists. It ships unframed. Keep it out of direct sunlight and dust it gently with a soft dry brush.

Gary Frier (b. 1972, Cape Town) creates culturally and socio-politically charged work. After graduating in Graphic Design (2004), he left the design industry for a personal artistic practice. His work juxtaposes contemporary and historical African elements with strong graphic quality, reflecting his place in the world. Frier also facilitates art and pottery at Valkenburg Psychiatric Hospital. His work is held in major collections, including Iziko South African National Gallery, and has been exhibited widely. He lives and works in Kuilsriver.
