You are buying the original signed painting, not a print, and there is one. Photo 1 is the whole painting, photo 2 a close detail of the horn at the top left, and photo 3 a detail of the xylophone keys and drums. The artist's canvases on Sokofa are usually sent rolled in a tube, unstretched and unframed, so message the artist before ordering if you need it stretched or framed. Colours can look slightly different on screen.
Music is part of almost every gathering in Ghana, from festivals and naming ceremonies to funerals, and the wooden xylophone has deep roots there, above all the gyil of the Dagara people in the north west. Here the artist paints horn, xylophone and drums as loose shapes of colour rather than exact instruments, so the painting reads as rhythm more than as a still life. Painted in Ghana by a Ghanaian artist.

An original acrylic painting on canvas of African musical instruments in vivid colour. A long curving horn sweeps across the top of the canvas, a row of xylophone keys runs through the middle, and round drums and rattles gather along the bottom, all overlapping so that no instrument sits still. The artist paints them in rich greens, reds, ochres, yellows and deep blues, picked out with small cream dots and lines, and in their own words has turned the instruments into expressive forms rather than painting them realistically, so the colour carries the music. They describe the piece as being about music as memory, identity, movement and connection. It is signed LEXIS at the lower right and measures 18.5 x 23.7 inches (about 47 x 60cm), portrait, as given by the artist, which suits a living room, a music room or the main wall of a study. There is one, and it is the canvas you see here. If you prefer musicians to instruments, the artist's Fresh African Songs, a goje fiddle player at a similar size, is also in the shop. Keep it out of direct sunlight and dust it with a soft dry brush.
