A fish worked in white chiffon and gold sequins, standing clear of a hand textured white board with a gold painted edge, 61cm wide and 81cm long. This is not a print. The fins and tail are cut from chiffon and shaped so they lift away from the board and cast their own shadow, and the largest of them reach out past the gold painted edge, so the fish reads as swimming out of the frame rather than sitting inside it. The body is scaled in overlapping white scales cut and layered by hand, with round gold sequins set between them, and the head is covered in small pearl beads with a strand of pearls trailing loose below the frame. The board behind is built up in thick white texture and marked with strokes of gold, so the piece keeps its detail in daylight and under a lamp. It is a single original, one only, and nothing else the maker builds will be identical to it. Made from carton, chiffon, sequins and pearl beads on a hand textured painted board. Hang it out of direct sunlight and away from damp. Dust it gently with a dry soft brush rather than a cloth, which can catch the raised fins.
