SIFA Blue Koi Fish, 3D Sequin and Organza Wall Art

A three dimensional koi fish worked in blue sequins and layered organza, mounted on a hand textured white board studded with pearl and gold beads. This is not a print of a fish. The fins and tail are cut from organza, gathered and shaped so they stand clear of the board, and the body is scaled in overlapping sequins that catch the light as you move past it. The piece throws real shadows onto the white ground behind it, so it changes through the day in a way a flat picture cannot. It reads best on a plain wall with the light coming from one side. The ground is built up by hand into a coarse textured surface, painted white and set with small pearl beads and gold glitter beads scattered like bubbles. The body is finished in metallic blue, the head shaped and painted in solid cobalt with dark beads for the eyes, and the edge of the board is painted black. One piece only, made by hand, so it cannot be repeated exactly. Hang it out of direct sunlight and away from damp. Dust it with a soft dry brush rather than a cloth, which can catch the organza.
