Beaded leather sandals like these are a familiar Kenyan craft, with glass beadwork stitched onto leather straps by hand. The cowrie shells on the cowrie design were once used as currency across much of Africa, and the Swahili coast has its own species, so on a Kenyan pair they are shells from home waters.

Flat leather toe post sandals with beaded straps and braided ankle ties. Each pair has a red brown leather footbed stitched right around its edge, a beaded toe post, and a wide beaded strap across the foot, finished with braided cord ties that thread through slotted leather tabs at the heel and wrap the ankle gladiator style. There are four designs, and each is one pair in one size: a zigzag of brown, white and gold glass beads in size 42; glass beads with cowrie shells in size 41; multicoloured beads in size 41; and white and rainbow beads in size 40. Bright, comfortable and easy to dress up or down, they suit picnics, festivals, weddings, summer days and running errands. The price is for one pair. Wipe the leather with a damp cloth, let it dry away from direct heat, and keep the beadwork out of soaking water.
