Cultural context & artisan story
Nuru is Swahili for light, and Mulembe is the Luhya word for peace, so the piece and the store that made it are named in two of Kenya's languages. The beads are the small glass seed beads sold across Kenya as Maasai beads, a material name rather than a claim about the maker, who is Bukusu, one of the Luhya peoples of western Kenya.

Overview
Handmade beaded flower earrings in white seed beads, with gold beaded stamens radiating from a faceted gold centre, on gold tone hooks. Nuru means light in Swahili, and these are the brightest thing in the range. The petals are beaded solid while the gold runs out between them in fine lines, so the flower reads clearly from across a room rather than turning into a blur. White and gold is wedding and occasion territory. If you want the same flower in the Kenyan flag colours, the other Nuru Bloom pair is beaded in red, green, black and white. The maker gives the flower as 4cm across. Every bead is threaded by hand, so the two flowers differ a little from each other. Keep them away from perfume, and store them flat.
