Each collar is beaded by hand to order, so the pattern and bead placement may vary slightly from the photographs. Photo 3 shows the choker band on its own, without the mesh cape. The sunglasses and top in photo 1 are not included. Colours can look slightly different on screen.
Beadwork has long been one of the ways Xhosa and Zulu women dress for ceremony, and the maker of this collar works in that heritage from East London, in the Eastern Cape. Nobuhle takes the strong black and white geometry of that tradition and sets it above a light open net, so the collar reads as a statement from across a room and as fine handwork up close. The name is the maker's own, which she gives as "Mother of Beauty".

A hand beaded black and white choker that opens into an open mesh cape. The maker, Thumeka of IzigiBeads in East London, South Africa, calls this piece Nobuhle, which she translates as "Mother of Beauty". The collar starts with a firm beaded band about 3cm wide, patterned in sharp black and white triangles, with a white diamond at the centre front. From the lower edge of the band a lattice of black glass seed beads drops about 30cm down over the collarbone and chest, dotted with white beads at every join so the net catches the light. The band measures 29cm around and closes at the back with a silver tone hook clasp and a 3cm extender chain, so it can be let out a little. It suits a plain black dress, a wedding outfit or a heritage celebration, anywhere you want one bold piece to carry the look. Each collar is made to order, bead by bead, in glass seed beads on strong jewellery thread. Please allow 5 to 10 days of beading before dispatch. Care: store it flat in a dry place and wipe gently with a soft cloth if needed. Keep perfume, hairspray and lotion off the beadwork.

Authentic African beadwork by Thumeka. Handcrafted in South Africa, each luxury piece is woven from scratch and made to order. Wear your heritage with royal elegance!
