Beaded Africa Map Wall Art, Black and Gold, Greek Letters

A hand carved Africa map in sese wood, covered in old gold glass seed beads, with Greek letters and a date worked in black across the continent. This is the graphic one of the maker's lettered maps. The gold beads are the only reflective surface on the piece, so the map changes as you move past it and lifts a dark wall, a panelled hallway or a room where most of the art is black and white. If your walls are pale, the green and pink version in this range will read more clearly from across a room. The continent is cut from sese wood, a light Ghanaian hardwood that carvers also use for drums, then covered bead by bead in gold, with the lettering and a heavy black bead border worked right around the coastline. The back is left as plain stained wood with a hanging hook fitted, so it goes straight onto a nail or a picture hook with nothing else needed. It measures about 28cm tall and 21cm wide. Dust it with a dry soft brush or a cloth. Keep it out of direct sunlight, which fades glass beads over time, and off a damp wall.
